FootpathsThere are two public footpaths in Rope running across fields. By including stretches of road one can obtain two circular walks of a little under three miles. Walk 1: Rope Green Railway Bridge across Broughton Farm to Willaston and back via Wistaston Road, Willaston, Crewe Road and Rope Lane. This walk is 2.8 miles of which just under one mile is across fields. Directions: Go down steps from bridge and take path along railway fence. At stile, note direction shown on waymark arrow and follow it across field to stile in clump of trees. Continue with farm buildings on your right on similar line to next stile. Continue slightly left until industrial buildings appear and keep these on left. Exit on to lane, (Note; area around exit can be boggy after rain). Continue to right into Willaston. At Wistaston Road turn right and continue to Crewe Road. Turn right to Wells Green traffic lights and right up Rope Lane back to the start. Walk 2: Rope Green Railway Bridge, Eastern Road, fields to A500 farm bridge, fields to Puseydale Farm, Main Road Shavington to start of next footpath, fields to Rope Lane A500 bridge and back to railway bridge. This walk is about 2.5 miles. Directions: Take Eastern Road from bridge. Pass Rope Hall cottages drive and come to footpath sign in left hedge. The field is usually planted with an arable crop but the path is usually reinstated by a tractor being driven on route. The path leads off diagonally to the left behind the Rope Hall boundary towards the steps leading up the side of the farm road ramp. Cross A500 by bridge. Just beyond gate is a footpath sign. While this gives the initial direction on having taken the steps down the far ramp, take care to bear right to skirt pond. The stile at the base of an oak tree should then be visible. Cross stile and follow hedge to the left along fairly well worn path. On meeting a hedge at right angles, follow this hedge to right. A gate then allows passage through hedge. Waymark here is a little off track but the path is easily followed between hawthorns. The path continues through a final gate into a narrow path between houses and Puseydale Farm drive. Turn left along Main Road Shavington until the entrance to the final field section is reached opposite 92 Main Road. Use the narrow path, not the drive up to houses into the fields. Path leads near to a former stile which now has no purpose and down to a footpath sign at the stile in the fence at edge of field. Follow between fence and a newt fence to right until emerging on to Rope Lane at the Shavington side of the A500 bridge. Continue to left back to the start. An alternative walk is to turn left on Wistaston Road after crossing Broughton Farm and then left again along Eastern Road, either straight back to the railway bridge (2 miles) or taking walk 2 from the footpath sign in Eastern Road. (3.5 miles). Willaston Community Opportunities Group have published a series of walks. One of them is a circular walk passing through Rope, the route can be seen here. |
